Pink Mistress / Saturday, October 24, 2015

Is the Halloween hype getting to you? Need some fresh, cool indie-punk bands to clear your head? Look no further than The Pink Mistress this Saturday, October 24th--just one short week before that whole “block party” shindig goes down.

Washington, DC college rockers Swings are headlining a killer show that also boasts Sidebitch, Sedna’s Not Alone and Slackluster on the lineup. Swings are currently on the rise in indie and punk music circles--their laid-back slacker pop sound and work ethic (their second full-length of the year is set to come out next month) are garnering them a lot of attention from fans and blogs alike.

Second from the top of the bill are Sidebitch. Their self-described “feminist punk” style is sure to bring plenty of attitude and energy to the lineup. Says the band, “Our live show is high energy and noisy. You could say it's influenced by our riot grrrl godmothers--so Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, etc.--but we put our own spin on it.” If you enjoy relentless femme-punk spirit, make sure to get to the gig in time for their set.

Filling the third slot down are Sedna’s Not Alone, a Sandusky, Ohio band sure to satisfy anyone with an appetite for sad, lo-fi indie tunes. Fans of artists like Alex G and Car Seat Headrest definitely won’t want to miss them--they even describe their genre on their Facebook page as “mope jams, etc.” It’s safe to say that those fond of words like “sadcore” and “slowmotional” will get a kick out of what the folks of Sedna’s have to offer.

Rounding out the lineup are Athens rock-n-rollers SlackLuster, a group that should be pretty well-known to those familiar with the local scene. “There is no shortage of musical support in Athens and the extent of that is really impressive for a town this size,” said the band of what Athens music means to them. “It's great being able to share music with a close-knit community of other musicians and friends, having that creative dialogue with each other.” If you’re looking for some satisfying, genre-bending rock music to get you going on a Saturday night, look no further than SlackLuster’s set at the Mistress.

In short, if a diverse lineup of four talented bands sounds like just the right remedy for your pre-Halloween jitters, make sure to get to the Pink Mistress at 8 p.m. this Saturday. Bring $5 for the touring bands and come dressed in a costume if you’re feeling particularly spooky. This one’s sure to be a great time.
