What’s the best way to celebrate a birthday? By throwing a fabulous party, of course!

Put on your party pants and your dancing shoes, because the All Campus Radio Network is celebrating 44 years of life. 44 years of music, friendship and celebrating the musical scene of Athens, Ohio.

A lot has changed over the years. Genres have been born, new audio formats created and countless musicians have trooped through our beloved town to delight the ears of fans and students alike.

No party is complete without radical tunes, which is why ACRN booked itself one heck of a show for the celebration. Playing at the Smiling Skull Saloon tonight are Athens’ locals Sweet Lil’ and Nightstalker, as well as Illinois-bred Split Single and, drumroll please, Cymbals Eat Guitars.

That’s one stacked lineup. Between Sweet Lil’s dreamy shoegaze and jamming rock vibes from Split Single and Cymbals Eat Guitars, Nightstalker will offer up enough ambiance to satisfy the mellower individuals in the Skull.

Nightstalker’s Chris Lute gave a few minutes to ACRN to discuss its part in the birthday bash. “We’re playing four songs that will be part of a new EP that we’re going to begin recording in the next couple weeks (hopefully). Two of those songs are really spacey, the other two are kind of just jangly party jams.”

“We’re very excited to get the chance to play with CEG, because it’s the most high-profile band we’ve played with,” Lute continued. “I’m also really stoked to play with Split Single because of the Superchunk affiliation; I love that band. And we love Sweet Lil’.”

Cymbals Eat Guitars were a little too busy with their touring schedule to have a thorough chat with ACRN. When asked how excited they were to play in Athens, this was their reply:

We feel the same way.

Come celebrate ACRN Media’s birthday with us tonight at the Smiling Skull. Commemorate 44 years of college rock magnificence; bring $7 and your party hat. The show starts at 8 p.m.
