Paul Hewson, otherwise known as Bono, was severely injured in a recent cycling accident in New York City's Central Park. The U2 frontman was trying to avoid a collision with another cyclist, but clearly his attempt went horribly wrong.
Dean Lorich, a surgeon who operated on Bono, gave a statement to Rolling Stone saying that the musician fractured his eye socket, shoulder blade, upper arm and left pinky finger. Bono’s humerus (upper arm, for any non-med students) was broken into six pieces, went through the skin and required five hours of surgery. Lorich stated in an interview with Rolling Stone that Bono will require intensive and progressive therapy, but a full recovery is expected.
Due to the recent accident, U2’s planned week-long guest appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has been cancelled. U2 has also been planning a tour in support of the recently released Songs of Innocence. The band has yet to make a statement about whether these plans may change.
