Wayne Static, born Wayne Richard Wells, guitarist and vocalist of early 2000s alternative industrial metal band, Static-X, was found dead on November 1 at the age of 48. Static’s death came not even a week before his tour was set to kick-off with Powerman 5000 in Waterloo, Iowa. Originally, Static’s death was believed to have been drug related; however, that was not the case. Static’s publicist issued a statement claiming that the artist’s death was not due to drug overdose.
There has been an outpouring of love and thanks from fans and musicians alike, one such musician being former Static-X bassist, Tony Campos, whose rough relationship with Static was well known. A statement was issued by Campos on the subject:
“I’m having a hard time finding the words to express how I feel right now, and it’s taken me a long time to even try to write something… Even though we were no longer friends the last five years, I held on to a sliver of hope that my old friend would come back. We were like family…”
Static is survived by his wife and former adult film actress Tera Wray.
