News: Sufjan Stevens to Orchestrate Rodeo Documentary
By Abbie Doyle, Reviews Editor
Since the abandonment of his dream to make an album for all 50 states, Sufjan Stevens has apparently turned to orchestrating a rodeo documentary called Round-Up.
The documentary will be part of Brooklyn Academy of Music’s 2015 Winter/Spring season and was directed by Aaron and Alex Craig, who also filmed the music video for Stevens’ song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” This isn’t Stevens’ first time working with BAM, either. He’s provided music for two previous productions, but for this slow-motion feature Stevens will join alliances with Yarn/Wire, a new music ensemble from New York City.
Stevens’ electronic style in combination with Yarn/Wire’s percussion and strings seems like an odd choice for a slow-motion documentary about 2013’s Pendleton Round-Up in Oregon. Round-Up can only be an interesting addition to the quirky musician’s history.
