The Union / Friday, October 3, 2014
EDM artist DJ B-Funk has decided to throw Athens rave “Level Up” this Friday, October 3. Since he’s a “really big video game nerd,” he also managed to incorporate a Mario theme into the setup. Even though the Union on Court Street definitely isn’t the biggest venue he’s played, he’s pumped to represent Athens, his home town.
With the music, DJ B-Funk believes the thing that keeps his fans wild is “that anticipation of the drop.” When he’s mixing on stage, the only thoughts that electrify his mind concern the energy in the crowd.
“Are people having a good time? What songs can I play to keep them raving?” he asks himself.
B-Funk will be mixing alongside Bohno and DJ Axcess. Bohno mentioned to B-Funk that he will also be incorporating some “video-game-sounding songs,” which is something new that cannot be missed. According to B-Funk, they collaborated on choosing this unique video game theme because “it’s different, people see the design on the fliers and want to know what it means.”
B-Funk has recently fully committed his occupation to DJing. Since the recent, worldly popular outbreak of EDM, this occupation has shown to be quite a promising one. B-Funk explained how people, especially teens and college age, have just flocked to the electric dance scene.
“It all lies in the fluctuating tunes,” rich with rises and drops that have to be perfectly executed in order to mesmerize the crowd, and sustain that “raving” mood. He said, “music is all about the ebbs and flows.”
“It’s a sort of emotional manipulation,” B-Funk said. He must read the crowd, and mix the right sounds that will complement the mood of the people. “I just want people to come to the show. I want them to be able to experience stuff they never have before.”
