Thirteen years after George Harrison’s death, the artist is still being remembered. The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson; Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Stephen Drozd; the "Weird Al" Yankovic; Spoon's Britt Daniel; The Killers' Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer and Cold War Kids will perform at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on September 28 for George Fest.
The festival is described as a night to celebrate the music of George Harrison as stated by Pitchfork. Members of Weezer, The Cult, The Strokes and unnamed surprise guests will also be performing to commemorate Harrison’s legacy.
Proceeds from the show will go to The Jameson Neighborhood Fund to benefit Sweet Relief, a nonprofit organization that provides monetary aid to struggling musicians.
Six days prior to the concert, Universal is releasing The Apple Years 1968-75, a six-cd box set containing Harrison’s first six albums and many unreleased extras.
There have been a number of tribute concerts, albums, benefits and song covers dedicated to Harrison who died of lung cancer in 2001. While Harrison only lived 58 short years, his music and legend lives on forever and continues to positively effect lives.
