Lobsterfest 2014: Method Air
By Kyle Rutherford, Staff Writer
The handsome boys of Athens, Method Air, are excited to bring their talents to the Central Venue stage at Lobsterfest. These indie heartthrobs, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Sam Stansfield and Drummer Danny Paul, have become fairly popular in the area since their Lobsterfest appearance last year. ACRN talked to Stansfield about their opening set for Deerhoof, one of his favorite bands.
How have shows been going this past year since your last Lobsterfest?
Sam Stansfield: The majority of the shows that we've played since last time have been here in Athens, and that's been cool because we've been able to jam with our friends and try new things in front of familiar faces. Our Athens’ shows are really just about having fun at this point. We tend to stick to the solid material when we play out of town, take things a bit more seriously. Hopefully we'll get invited back.
What have you two been preparing for your upcoming Lobsterfest set at Central Venue?
We are going to play whatever we want. Our set time is during the day on Saturday, and it will be interesting. Maybe we'll play some covers. I'm really excited for all of the bands on that bill.
What excites you most about playing Lobsterfest and opening for one of your favorite bands, Deerhoof? What other bands are you excited for?
My older brother got me into Deerhoof a while back, and I absolutely cannot wait to see them play. They rule. Horse Lords and Giant Claw are others that I'm excited for.
You've mentioned that your sound style is changing up a bit; how did it all come about?
Basically, we are trying bigger things...and trying to find ways to make the boring parts more interesting. Adding little breaks and just writing more intricate material in general.
What are some things we can see in the future from Method Air?
We are hitting the road for five days in May with our friends in Ghost Stories and Heart Attack Man. We also will hopefully be releasing some music soon, but we aren't stressing that at the moment. T-shirts and stickers soon, however! Just laying low, pretty much doing our thing. Same as always, but better than ever.
What should concert-goers expect from a Method Air set?
Expect a good time with good people and maybe some shitty notes and explicit language.
