It comes around once a year; the wild red hair and brother-sister dynamic that attract lovers of rock arrives at The Union to bring the house down. White Mystery, this wild force of rock nature will be joined by Dirty Fences, The D-Rays and Satanarchy on Monday night.
Dirty Fences, accompanying White Mystery on this short stint of shows, makes music that is dirty and grungy, and the Brooklyn four-piece is not afraid to get it down and dirty: see the bloody album cover for Too High Too Kross. Based on the act’s amusing yet artsy Instagram account, the show is probably going to get pretty fun on their end.
White Mystery, the show’s headliner, survives its high energy performances on long tours by consuming green apples and doing plenty of jumping jacks. The outfit has been around since 2008 when siblings Miss Alex White and Francis Scott Key White decided to form a band together.
“As siblings, we’ve played together our whole lives, and on April 20, 2008, it seemed time to start a band,” said Miss Alex White. She also clarified that there has never been sibling rivalry between the two of them, and the most important thing about White Mystery’s creative process is supporting each others’ vision.
The band has garnered the attention of everyone from MTV to Vice to Pitchfork. Their latest music video has been promoted on SPIN.com. The edgy duo’s rock ‘n’ roll sound even attracted the attention of Levi’s, who reached out to White Mystery for an add campaign.
“Levi’s reached out to White Mystery for their spring #equipped collection, which highlights the classic trucker jacket. We’re an all-American band, and they’re an All-American brand, so it was a great fit!” said Miss White.
Not only does the denim look great, but both siblings have distinct red locks that look unbelievably healthy and beautiful. When asked about how they maintain their impeccable hair, Miss White pointed ACRN to Yes to Carrots Shampoo & Conditioner.
The duo has played all over the world and intends to embark upon a European tour this month, adding to the 15 countries in which they performed last year. “Prague in the Czech Republic was pretty amazing,” said Miss White when asked of White Mystery’s most interesting international performance. Although the group has been around the world and seen many things, they are no less excited for their annual drop in to Athens.
“Playing the Union once a year is always a pleasure; y’all sure know how to party,” said Miss White.
Music at the Union starts at 8 p.m. and there will be a cover charge for those under 21.
